I had the extraordinary good fortune to spend three days in Positano this week. My friend Gillian had rented an adorable apartment. Not only did it come equipped with a huge terrace with an breath taking view out over the coast, but (more importantly) there was an extra bedroom for guests. The apartment actually belongs to our friend Diana, but it was Gillian’s for two luxurious weeks.
Thank you Gillian, inviting me over to play.
Gillian (who has written a brilliant app, Rome for Expats) is actually somewhat of a Amalfi coast expert. You can get some of her tips here. (Gillian has a nice life).
I’ll be posting next week about all the wonderful things we ate, drank and did in Positano. But in the meantime, as my Friday gift, (and as a prelude to what’s to come) I thought I’d leave you with these random, gorgeous images that just about sum up this corner of paradise.

Can I sign up for your life, or perhaps Gillian’s life? I feel as though this is a place I “need” to be.

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for the shout out and glad that you enjoyed the few days there. Love the photos you took and as I have mentioned to Gillian, it’s nice to see Positano through the eyes of others. Looking forward to reading your future posts as to what the both of you did and ate in Positano.

Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for the Friday beauty.

That place is gorgeous, but it is the place of a thousand steps.

Oh my goodness. My honey and I were just talking about if we could do anything, anything right now it would be to escape where for two weeks? You guessed it. Alas, the finances are not co-operating so I will live vicariously through you all next week.
Bon weekend, Elizabeth!

Just recently found your blog and yeah, Julie…would be nice to have this life. Was in Positano, Capri and Amalfi for 15 days a couple of years ago. Such a romantic place, beautiful scenery, awesome food and we got to know quite a few locals. Would go back in a heart beat…..It helped traveling with my boyfriend a Sicilian from Castellmare del Golfo…..Enjoy your website VERY much !!!
THANK YOU
Liz

Yes Elizabeth I was lucky enough to spend some time with you and some extra days with our wonderful host Gillian before you arrived. It truly was a randomly gorgeous few days. Everyone asked “well, what did you do”? “This”! Showing them beautiful picture after picture of the view and the occasional aperitivo shot.”Just this”! No reason to leave, EVER.
Ciao for Now,

What a gift! I will be there in two weeks and am thrilled that you will be posting tips for restaurants and such. These pictures are beautiful. If it is even half as beautiful as it looks in your pics, I think I am going to spend the week in a permanent swoon.

Ohhhh, Positano! My husband and I honeymooned there, nine years ago. We’ve talked about going back for our 10th anniversary… your photos are reminding me of our relaxing two weeks on the Amalfi Coast.

Sigh. One of my favorite places on the planet.
I went there before I moved to Rome. I keep saying I will go back but haven’t made it south of Naples yet.
The food, the scenery, the flirty men, the scents, the hiking. I love it.
