One of the most exciting recent developments on the Rome restaurant scene has been what’s happening in the Ostiense neighborhood. This nondescript area, located just past Testaccio, was no one’s idea of a destination dining experience. Until Eataly moved in, that is. Eataly took over an abandoned train station and – seemingly over night – turned an forgotten corner of Rome into the place everyone wants to be.
Just down the street, in a former industrial building, Porto Fluviale is adding another reason to head over to this (obviously) happening area.
Just to clear things up: Porto Fluviale is not a store. But it does manage to do just about everything else food wise. The immense, light filled space hosts a pizzeria, a trattoria, a bar and a private dining room. The design (by Robert Liorni) is warm, inviting and comfortable. The concept (by Dario Laurenzi) combines great, simple food, at reasonable prices served by friendly, professional staff.
A lot of moving pieces. Hard to describe in words with just a handful of photos. Which is why I’ve made this short video. Enjoy!

Not pursuant to this particular post, but I have to tell you. I made your Canellini beans with salsa verde last evening from a post of 2 years ago. I used just canned beans which I warmed and served over arugula salad. My husband could not get enough of it. I am using the remains tonight to stuff some pappadew peppers as a nibble for a small dinner party that I am having for Valentine’s day. I love your blog. Thank you so much for your fabulous suggestions. Buona Festa!
