‘Tis the season. The book season, that is. So many of my friends are publishing books this fall, that I wanted to make sure you knew about them.
Elizabeth Gilbert certainly needs no extra publicity from me. There is no way you could have missed the rave reviews for her newest book The Signature of All Things. It’s been lauded in the New York Times (twice!)and the Washington Post just to name a couple. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s on it’s way to me and I can’t wait. I’m a huge Liz fan really looking forward to reading this, her first novel. (be careful with those reviews, they contain spoilers!)
Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking is by my friend Anya Von Bremzen. Again, no pr needed since it’s gotten reviewed in the Times , WSJ, LA Times, NPR, and too many food blogs to count. Although many of you know Anya as a world traveling correspondent and food writer from New York, what you may not know is that she grew up in Soviet Russia. This is the memoir of her childhood, with the backdrop of one of the most difficult moments in history. From a food perspective of course.
Mastering the Art of French Eating is by my friend Ann Mah, who spent a year traveling through France, exploring the origins of French comfort food on her own, while her husband – a diplomat – was posted far away. It’s mostly about food, of course, but also about love and life.
Finally, a cookbook. You asked for it, you got it. Pizza, by the Michelangelo of pizza, Gabriele Bonci, is finally out in English. If you read this blog, then you need no introduction to the man. All you need in the book. Written by Gabriele with Elisia Menduini, the book explains – step by step – how you can recreate Pizzarium pizza in the comfort of your own home.
I’m very lucky to have such talented (and productive!) friends.

You might also like Joyce Goldstein’s new book– Inside the California Food Revolution: 30 Years that Changed our Culinary Consciousness. For those of us lucky to have enjoyed California’s landmark restaurants from the 70’s-90’s, this book is a delicious trip down memory lane.

Very much looking forward to reading Joyce’s newest book! I should have included it as well, since she is a friend too!

Do we need a Pizza Oven?
Elizabeth Minchilli
No, not at all. The pizza book is all about making his pizza at home. He transforms his recipe (which, anyway, is made in an electric baking oven) for home ovens.

Great list – thank you for sharing, I’m looking forward to a winter spent by the pool with a good book!

Yay! I almost did a similar post but with different friends–save for Ann! I love her book, love it. It is (literally) a keeper and rereader. Although you and I haven’t met, it makes sense that you two would get along. 🙂
And believe it or not, since I live under a rock, I hadn’t heard about Elizabeth Gilbert’s book–so thank you!

Of course you know Ann! I met Ann when her last book, Kitchen Chinese, was published in Italian.
