I just realized I never posted the full list of places where I ate in San Francisco. I was there in April, (for an IACP conference) and I realize it is now five months past. Better late than never, right?
Although I know that there are lots of better resources than this blog for eating your way through that food obsessed city, I’ve had so many requests for my own personal list that I thought it was worth writing down.
So here is the full list, with only very brief descriptions, because if I have to write more this post will remain forever in draft form. At least I’ve provided links to both my own past blog posts where there is one, as well as the places themselves. I’ve also included a very few delicious photos from the way too many that I took.
The Mill
736 Divisadero Street
All day long, great coffee and the best toast in town.
(see my post)
Hog Island Oyster
Ferry Building
Oyster, oysters, oysters. And a view
See my post.
Nopalito
306 Broaderick Street
Sustainable, organic and totally delicious Mexican.
Tartine Bakery
600 Guerrero Street
Bakery. The line around the block says it all.
Bar Tartine
561 Valencia Street
Home made/pickled/cured everything. We had lunch there and had amazing sandwiches. Wish I had gone back for dinner.
Craftsmen and Wolves
746 Valencia Street (at 18th Street)
Bakery, both savory and sweet. Muffin with soft boiled egg in middle criminally good.
Dandelion
740 Dandelion Street
Artisan Chocolate.

Tacolicious
741 Valencia
Painfully good tacos.
Slanted Door
Ferry Building
Uber famous modern Vietnamese cooking. As good as the hype. Plus amazing views of bridge.
Boulettes Larder
Ferry Building
Loved going here for breakfast. They have since closed and reopened to expand into real restaurant, so not sure of their breakfast options.
SF Farmer’s Market
Ferry Building (Tues, Thurs, Sat)
In addition to being a market, there are also great food trucks/stands there. Long lines, worth the wait.
Hi Lo
3416 19th Street
Northern California Barbeque. Not quite sure what that means, but it was delicious. (owned by Scott Youkilis who just happens to be my best friend Edward’s nephew)
Hogs and Rocks
3431 19th Street
A ham and oyster bar (nothing wrong with that) but I only had an excellent cocktail.
(another Youkilis place)
Omnivore Books
3885 Cesar Chavez Street
Best cookbook store ever.

Edible Excursions
One of the funnest things I did was tour the Mission district with the wonderfully erudite and fun Sean Timberlake.
There was lots I couldn’t fit into the week I was there. For instance I never made it for Dim Sum which made me sad. And I didn’t get nearly enough cocktail time in.
Other places that were on my list, but I didn’t have time for and/or couldn’t get a reservation:
Incanto
Mission Chinese
Rich Table
Nopa
State Bird Provisions
AQ
Namu Gaji
I was in SF with Evan and we stayed at a beautiful apartment we found through Home Exchange. We had a great experience and I definitely recommend trying this out. I did a non-simultaneous exchange for our house in Umbria.
Evan Kleiman: Best Friend and Companion in Crime at Bar Tartine
Pickles and Borscht at Bar Tartine
Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart at Dandelion
Chips, Avocados and Ceviche at Nopalito
Ferry Building Farmer’s Market
One of Everything at Tacolicious
Banana Cream Chocolate something at Tartine Bakery
Sewing Princess
I am now hungry and I want to book a flight! Thanks for the useful info, Elizabeth

You must visit Perbacco next time you’re in San Francisco.
Julia { dinners with friends }
Looks like there’s already a list for your next San Francisco visit:
dim sum, more cocktail time and scoring those missed dinner reservations {seven more dinners!}

Diary of a Mad Bathroom
Amazing pictures. SF is my second fave city after Rome. I am going next month and thanks to this post, I have added to my list of places to try. The choices are almost endless, aren’t they?
Ann Joyce
great list but too bad not one recommendation from my old neighborhood, northbeach? we used to own a place on Columbus Avenue called “‘Cafe Capri” that had the first Italian wine bar in S.F. …..before all the competition (read Napa/Sonoma) from up north, but now it seems they love Italian Wine again, I think they have a big exhibition there every year? what’s not to love!.
