Everything tastes better with a view.
Especially Negronis.
And when the view is of the sunset over Roman gardens, and the Negronis are perfectly made, served in heavy glass tumblers by a white jacketed waiter, well, it’s hard to get any better than that.
I also love a good swizzle stick. There aren’t enough of those anymore.
The Negronis in question were thoroughly enjoyed during a ‘meeting’ with my editor from AFAR magazine at the rooftop bar of the Hotel Eden. Because, you know, this is the kind of place where such ‘meetings’ between travel editors and writers happen. It’s called research.
While Negronis are not that hard to make (equal parts gin, vermouth and Campari) I swear to god they just taste better when the rosy light of an October sunset in Rome comes streaming through them. And I’m not sure if it was the effect of our second round of drinks, or just the progressively dramatic skyline, but the view over Rome just kept getting better too.

I stayed in this hotel on my last visit to Rome a few years back. I took a quick sneak at the menu for La Terrazza. Boy, was that one expensive menu.

Yes, the restaurant is expensive, but I think it has at least one Michelin star. Once you get to that level, the prices tend to rise.

That is absolutely worth it. When I think that cocktails at my local Hotel Nord Pinus’s terrace (which looks on to the café packed Place du Forum) cost 13€ with only a bit of peanuts?

Love this post… beautiful shots of the negronis and I felt like I could pick up one of those canapes! Thanks for sharing.

On our way to Rome on October 26, and my husband and I are staying at that very hotel. I know what our first stop will be after checking in…
