I know that Litro, which translates as liter, is all about wine. And you should definitely go here for what is probably one of the best ever-changing lists of hard-to-find natural and biodynamic wines in Rome. But if wine is not your thing there also happens to be some of the best cocktails in town, with one of the city’s premier barmen, Pino Mondello, playing around with an amazing selection of tequilas and mezcals , as well as a list of hard to find vermouths and vini chinati. So there’s that.
But what I love is that you can eat here pretty much all day. So yes, by all means, head here for a meal, where there are always salads, bruschette, and a soup of the day. But they also get going early so you can stop by for a perfect cornetto and cappucino. And to go with that aperitivo? A platter of cheese and cured meats from D.O.L. (which, actually, sounds good for breakfast to me)
But one of my favorite times of day is that witching hour when you don’t quite know if it’s time for an aperitivo yet. Gillian and I stopped by around 5:50 recently, and pretty much had the place to ourselves. While we could have convinced ourselves it was time for a cocktail (when isn’t it time for a cocktail?) we decided to be good girls and stick with caffeine and sweets. A slice of apple strudel and a perfectly made tiramisu were washed down with shots of espresso.
The space is so cute and comfortable (they also have an outside terrace) that we lingered into what could justifiably be considered cocktail hour. (6:30, am I right?) but resisted. I’m not sure why. I think we thought we had to get home to make dinner or something. Silly us.

Silly ladies – it is always cocktail time, especially since Gillian just made it through 940 Sundays!
Welcome back!

Elisabeth:
I just wanted to complement you in your blog. I read it daily and it’s become part of my routine.
I have used your three guides Eat Italy, Florence and Venice and have never felt that your recommendations were not on point. I thank you, and keep the good work!!.
Elizabeth
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a nice comment!! It’s great to get such wonderful feedback.
Gillian
Silly us indeed!

I too read you daily emails. I have been in Rome 5(!) times, once for five weeks, and I used your app religiously and was never disappointed. You take me back there with your photos and words. I also have used several of your recipes. I will be in Rome again for the last two weeks of September and will be staying near the Vatican. Not too many great places there, but I use the subway and taxis. Looking forward to sweet Roma.

Thank you for all these recommendations. I hope that one day I will visit Rome and use your content as a guide. Your language is very straightforward and easy to understand. Keep up the good work and continue bringing us a journey to Rome through your blog.

I love this place.
I have an important question. I thought cocktail/aperitivi hour started at 5:00 p.m. Is this incorrect?! x
Elizabeth
Well, evidently, if you are Arlene Gibbs they can even start at 11am. I have proof. I’ve seen you sipping prosecco at that hour in public.
Arlene Gibbs Décor
ahahaha. I forgot about that .

Elizabeth…another one just went on the “list”…will we have any time to visit sites or just hop from one eating adventure to the next! Did you actually make dinner once you went home? If so…hope you had a cocktail while doing so! For some reason Litro reminds me a bit of St. John in Spitalfields…just a vibe thing I think??
