If you follow me then you already know that I spend most of my time bouncing back and forth between our homes in Rome and in Umbria. But there is another place that I know and love and which pops up on the blog more than any other: Puglia.
I’ve been visiting Puglia regularly for the last 30 years. Domenico is from the capital of Puglia, Bari, and his family home there has been our base to explore both the city and the entire region. We spend holidays like Christmas and Easter at his mother’s apartment overlooking the old port. And during the last few years Sophie has gone even further, spending weeks at a time in the southern part of the region, Salento, with friends she has made there.
And now Sophie and I would like you to fall in love with this region as much as we have. After much research (eating, drinking, and driving not necessarily in that order) we’ve come up with what we think is the perfect week-long tour of some of our favorite places in Puglia.
We’ll be based in three of my favorite spots: Lecce, Monopoli and Bari. The days will be full, and include activities such as visits to cheese makers, cooking classes with nonnas and olive oil tastings in ancient olive groves. We’ll also be including stops in some of our favorite towns that are completely unique: Alberobello with its cone shaped trulli; Ostuni with its white washed buildings; and Otranto with its amazing Cathedral.
In other words: lots of food, lots of fun but also culture and history as well. Sounds pretty perfect, right?
We’ve planned two weeks in Puglia:
April 7-13, 2019
October 6-12, 2019
